Chapter 16

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You haven’t talked to us since you started sitting with him!” I could hear her footsteps come closer.
“Don’t talk to me.”
“Alex, please, I’m sorry okay but it’s just-”
“It’s just what!” Kiyo had yelled at her making me jump.
“I…I…I’m not talking to you. I was talking to Alex.”
“Well, she obviously doesn’t want to talk to you, so why don’t you just find someone else to plead to.”
“Alex, are you just going to let him talk to me like this?” I was silent. What did I have to say to her? Kiyo pretty much said it all for me and I wasn’t going try and defend her. Because she was dead to me and so was everyone else.
“Fine,” She bit her lower lip. “Stay with him, and if he does something to hurt you. Don’t coming running back. I was right. He is brainwashing you.” She turned on her heels and began stomping her way back up the stairs.
“I’m leaving.” I made my way to my car unlocking the door quickly, making that all familiar sound of the engine starting up. Kiyo stopped the door before I could close it.
“Kiyo, knock it off. I’m going home.” He stood there defiant. My blood was boiling inside of me and he wasn’t making it any better.
“Well, don’t go back upset. Cheer up.”
“Cheer up? Kiyo, you don’t understand I just lost all of my friends. You want me to cheer up, you have no idea what’s it’s like to have friends-” I soon regretted what I said. “I’m sorry Kiyo, too harsh.”
He closed the door and left his hands on the side.
“Dive home safely.” I sighed and sunk down in my seat. The low hum of the engine was only sound that was heard. Kiyo was still standing beside my car but, his eyes were somewhere else.
“Kiyo, I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to, my emotions got the best of me and..”
“What can I do to make you happy?” His eyes were still far away from me and it was troubling.
“What?”
He finally looked up at me. “You’re upset, I don’t like seeing you upset. I want you to be happy.”
I hesitated for a few moments, trying to come up with a reasonable answer. “I just…I just want it all to go away.. It’s a lot of stress, having to deal with losing all of your friends that you’ve none for years. Guess I’m trying to cope with it by being angry.”
“So, that’s it. It’s just you’re friends…”
“Pretty much, yeah,” I placed my hands on the wheel. “But, I’m sure I’ll get over by tomorrow. See ya.”
I pulled out of the lot and made the quick drive home. The feeling of having lost your friends feels like an illness, I could feel it in my throat, the tears that I was trying to hold in. As soon as I pulled up to the driveway, Anna was waiting outside, once she saw my car she raced over to me. She knocked on the window and to my dismay, I rolled it down.
“I heard everything.” Snow lightly fell onto her hair.
“How did you find out so quickly? I just left school.” I said while pulling the keys out of the engine. She stood there just looking at me.
“It was him. Wasn’t it?”
“No! It wasn’t Kiyo. Turns out my friends were doing a little research on Kiyo, about things that weren’t even true.”
“Like what?” She stepped aside as I opened the door.
“They said that he killed Tracey Briggs.” I walked past her and made my way to the front door.
“Holy crap, no way. I was thinking the same thing.”
I spun around. “Anna, don’t believe it they’re not telling the truth. I mean you met Kiyo..”
“Yeah, I have. He’s weird.”
“Shutup.” I opened the door and grabbed a glass from the cabinet. Running the tap, I filled the glass to the brim. I pulled out a chair and sat down.
“Well, it’s true. I mean don’t you find it kind of strange that right after Kiyo get’s humiliated in front of the entire school. Tracey just disappears? Come on. Add it all up, plus it’s not that hard to believe.”
“Anna! You don’t know anything!”
“Oh, yeah! Alex, Tracey was my best friend. You know she called me right before she was killed. She felt like someone was following her. She was terrified Alex, and she had no idea that she would die ten minutes later. She told me that she had regretted doing that to Kiyo, she was going to apologize. I miss her, Alex. I just want to know if he did it.”
“Why does everyone always have to blame him?”
“Alex, listen to me! How does he act when you talk about her? Upset, right? Think about it use that thick skull of yours and realize that it was Kiyo-”
“Shutup! He didn’t do anything! For all we know it could be anyone. You can’t just subject him of doing it, there are men out there who would do the same thing! It can’t be Kiyo!” I throw the glass at the wall, it shattered, making an awful sound. The rapid footsteps of my father came rumbling down the stairs.
“What’s going on down here?” He looked at me then to Anna.
“Ask her.” Anna got up and walked past him. He stared at me.
“Well?”
“It’s nothing..” I mumbled. I stood and walked around him. I didn’t want to talk about it anymore, I felt so drained.
