This is how I did it Total students = 57 Ratio of boys:girls = 4:15 So for every 4 boys there are 15 girls 4 + 15 = 19 57/19 = 3 3 x 4 = 12 (boys) 3 x 15 = 45 (girls) 12 + 45 = 57 students 12/45 - g = 4/11 cross multiply this 12 x 11 = 132 45-g x 4 = 180 - 4g SO we are left with 132 = 180 - 4g Solve for g 4g = 180-132 4g = 48 g = 12 So back to our original ratio of 12 : 45 we just take off 12 girls 12 : 33 12/33 = 4/11

@GenericCoder the scaling method, nice.....

Here another cool way to solve it if anyone lost please Tell me I will repost the solution with more detailed explanation. A/B = 5 / 19. 5X / (19X + 23) = 10/61. 5x(61) = 10(19x + 23). 305x = 190x + 230. 305x - 190x = 230. 115x = 230. x = 2. 5(2) + 19(2) + 23 = 48 + 23 = 71.

OK after reading the comments I finally understand the last problem. Just kidding Mr. Khan!

As of 5/2/11 the order of his ratio videos has no first video. He somehow picks up where the "previous video left off. That,in addition to his lack of cohesion on his video AND the fact that comments are disabled on his website will make it a challenge to not want to punch Mr. Khan in the faCE WHENEVER I HEAR THE SOUND OF HIS VOICE.

why is your teaching technique so ass- sucky on this video? I know my learning technique is ass-sucky but PBS never said I was a good listener.
