As a US Department of State political advisor to a Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in the desolate southern Afghan province of Uruzgan, Daniel Green had a wide variety of responsibilities. He worked with villagers and the military to institute good governance efforts, reconstruction plans and development projects. Yet, at the same time, his work was bogged down by US policies driven by unrealistic expectations, a superficial understanding of the Afghans and a lack of resources. Join Daniel Green as he discusses his work with the PRT, managing complex relationships with local leaders, dealing with the violence of the insurgency and the enduring problems he and his team experienced in Uruzgan despite the change in presidential administrations.

Recorded on December 14, 2011, Wednesday, 6 pm at the Marines' Memorial Club and Hotel, San Francisco.
