New York, NY - February 9, 2008. Battle Cry (www.battlecry.com) is the ultra-right, evangelical Christian group that uses over the top militaristic rhetoric (fighting the "culture war" against "the enemy" - essentially anyone who disagrees with founder Ron Luce) and, oddly, a red flag as their symbol. They currently have a two prong assault against the popular culture underway: to "train" teen cadre to be "true followers of Christ" ("Teen Mania") and to "recreate" New York City in their own image (www.recreate08.com). In this clip a number of young adherents rally at Times Square's "Military Island" (i.e., the recruitment center) screaming for Jesus in a manner self consciously reminiscent of Beatlemania while across Broadway from the recruitment center the World Can't Wait held a protest against Battle Cry's militaristic rhetoric and worldview...
"A stealthy enemy has infiltrated our country and is preying upon the hearts and minds of 33 million American teens. Corporations, media conglomerates, and purveyors of popular culture have spent billions to seduce and enslave our youth. So far, the enemy is winning. But there is plenty we can do. We need to take action. We need to answer the Battle Cry." - BattleCry.com
