More than 60 years after the bombing of Hiroshima there are still five-thousand nuclear weapons on hair-trigger alert. Yet in 2005 the Nuclear-Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference -- described as the most important meeting ever to take place at the United Nations -- ended with no agreement on disarmament.

The next Review Conference will not be until 2010.

In "People vs. The Bomb: Showdown at the UN" a one-hour documentary on the implications of the failed NPT conference, World Opinion Forum reports on the responses of ambassadors, mayors, experts, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and concerned citizens around the world as they work to bring the nuclear weapons states back to their earlier agreements on nuclear abolition.

These actions include such little-reported developments as:

Sixty recommendations by Hans Blix , Chairman of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission, including a call for an emergency UN Summit to deal with the crisis.

A warning from the Atomic Scientists who have moved the Doomsday Clock two minutes closer to midnight.

An announcement by Norway that it will divest from companies that make nuclear bombs. BAE, Boeing, Northrop-Grumman, Honeywell, Finmeccanica, Safran and United Technologies.

And a call by the worldwide Mayors for Peace for de-alerting and immediate, irreversible de-targeting of all world cities.

Mayors for Peace also call for complete nuclear abolition by 2020.

The program includes interviews and presentations at the UN by leaders, diplomats, NGOs, and experts including Mayor Akiba of Hiroshima; former US Defense Secretary, Robert McNamarra; Helen Caldicott of the Nuclear Policy Research Institute; Judge Weeramantry of the World Court; Senator Douglas Roche of Canada; the late Nobel Peace Laureate, Sir Joseph Rotblat; and Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who described the failure of the conference as "a real disgrace.")

The program also includes scenes and interviews in NY Central Park where tens of thousands from around the world gathered at the Mayors for Peace rally to express the will of the people demanding abolition of nuclear weapons -- beginning now.
