@TheBigGuy31 Have you read anything I've said? Because you're not good at reading, I'll summarize: kipping pullup is easy so it's shitty. Do you kip pushups, too? How about kipping sit-ups? CrossShit is such a joke.
@elgilicious Strict pullups are most definitely harder. If you look at a crossfit workout it involves more pullups than anyone could do strict, therefore the kip is used. To say they are not effective or a waste of time is just ignorant, Crossfit is not all about going into a weight room and doing things slow and taking forever to do them. Have you ever even tried Crossfit?
@TheBigGuy31 It's easy to kip up to a pullup bar because momentum reduces the work your muscles have to do. Reduce the momentum, and the pullup becomes more difficult because your muscles have more work to do. That's why you can kip pull more than you can deadhang pull: it's an easier and therefore inferior exercise. Your refusal to accept logic and basic physics concepts is a shining example of why people hate Crossfit.
@elgilicious You were making good points for your case until your last sentence, I'm gonna go ahead and stop this conversation now. I'm not saying dead hang pull-ups are not effective, they most certainly are, I don't understand people's hatred for crossfit, it incorporates a lot of every type of exercise style.
@TheBigGuy31 You use your core more with a deadhang pullup than a kipping pullup because it takes more core strength to keep your torso straight than to let momentum take it on a ride. The fact that people can do more kipping pullups than deadhang pullups means that it's easier and, therefore, shittier.
@elgilicious When done correctly, kipping should effectively activate your entire core, from abs to lower back to your butt. A lot of the time people kip with the thought that they need to do whatever they can to get up to the bar, which is incorrect. If done under control and with your core engaged kipping is definitely an effective way to incorporate more than just your back and biceps.
@TheBigGuy31 Just because your whole body is moving doesn't mean you're effectively training it. By kipping, you're subjecting your whole body to momentum and doing very little lifting of your own. Doing a deadhang pullup at moderate speed is much more work than letting Isaac Newton propel you to the bar. The kipping pullup is kind of like karate chopping boards in half: a magic trick passed off as exercise.
@elgilicious lol...A waste of time? It's the exact same amount of work, it just works more than just your back and biceps. It incorporates core strength as well, therefore you get more total work done in less time. Crossfit is not about doing workouts that focus on just one area, nearly all the workouts used in Crossfit workout numerous muscles, including kipping pullups.
@TheBigGuy31 Momentum (generated by the kip) is doing most of the work, which makes it a waste of time. Doing real pullups is better than twitching like a retard like Crossfitters do.
