Good afternoon, Birmingham. Allow us first to apologize for this interruption. We do, like many of you, appreciate the comforts of every day routine - the security of the familiar, the tranquility of repetition. We enjoy them as much as any bloke. But in the spirit of commemoration, thereby those important events of the past usually associated with someones death or the end of some awful bloody struggle, a celebration of a nice holiday, We thought we could mark this November the 8th, a day that is sadly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat.
There are of course those who do not want us to speak. We suspect even now, orders are being shouted into telephones, and men wearing hi-viz will soon be on their way. Why? Because while Section 5 may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with Scientology, isnt there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and restrictions of information on the internet, coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission.
And now we find the Cult of Scientology has wormed its way into the hearts, minds and wallets of not only the public, but celebrities too. How did this happen? Whos to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if youre looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. We could have stopped this Crazy Fad before it even started, but we kept quiet thinking it would blow over. Then came the deaths, the tax relief and the infiltration of government departments. And still we did nothing.
We know why those in Scientology joined. They were afraid. Who wouldnt be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt their reason and rob them of their common sense. Fear got the best of them, and in their panic they turned to the now dead science fiction writer, L Ron Hubbard. He promised them order, he promised them peace, and all he demanded in return was their silent, obedient consent and about £30,000.
This year, we sought to end that silence. This year, we have been protesting outside the buildings of this cult, to show the world what has for so long been hidden. More than four hundred years ago a great citizen wished to embed the eighth of November forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words, they are perspectives. So if youve seen nothing, if the crimes of this cult remain unknown to you then we would suggest you allow the eighth of November to pass unmarked.
But if you see what we see, if you feel as we feel, and if you would seek as we seek, then we ask you to stand beside us outside the doors of Birmingham Org, and together we shall give them a eighth of November that shall never, ever be forgot.
