Bob, Geoff & Matt performing "To the Tree" at Winter SolstiCelebration
In the dark of the year
You, ancient tree
Have shed your fruits and leaves.
Now stand slumbering
Dormant and dreaming
Your slowflowing lifesap storing up soul from the soil
In your roots and the massive pillar of your trunk.
You have been my ladder to the overworld,
when I searched out the hawk with the unutterable name.
Your roots have been my path to the underworld
where the Old Ones shared their secrets.
You have shaded my adventures and witnessed my ecstasies,
Upheld and pierced me, and drunk of my life.
I ponder your majesty Life-force pulsing just out of sight.
Knowledge of the ages Buried in the pillar of your trunk.
I long to dance with you again,
to witness ness the new shoots
Bursting green from your branches,
Exposing your life-force to the world.
Absolutely enchanting!
