  • This sure takes me back! Langston Hughes was a genius.

  • It's good to see a demo of any kind, but difficult to get a real idea of what the machine did without hot metal and running at true speed (twice as fast) and in subdued light. The amazing part of the machine is the action of the two pairs of jaws which open and close alternately, each half-cycle eventually selecting a single position for the matrix case to be clamped to the mould which forms the body of one piece of type at a time as it is turned from molten to solid.
