The Calm Before (and Arrival) of the Storm, featuring former Cape Cod National Seashore ranger Jack Clarke, former WVLC radio newsman Bob Seay, and Eastham Natural Resources Officer Henry Lind recalling the events leading up to the storm known as the "Blizzard of '78" on Cape Cod. Also featured are weather forecast footage from WCVB-TV in Boston and what may be the final photo ever taken of the Outermost House, thanks to Karen McLean.
The storm swept away Henry Beston's Outermost House.

  • @winerts I'd elect that storm into office.

  • On 1/26-27/11, there will be a mayor snowstorm moving up the east coast and it looks very similar to this storm! DEJA VU!

  • My dad was stationed at the LORAN-C station on Nantucket during the blizzard of '78. He says that the front of his Ford Bronco was sandblasted and that they had gotten a half foot of snow before it changed to rain. He also said that "If you wanted to go down and look at the surf, just forget it. You'd be swept away."
