Rick Hammerle: Racing Secretary Santa Anita Park

Santa Anita and Del Mar racing secretary Rick Hammerle has been a racing official for over 20 years, having also worked at Monmouth Park, The Meadowlands, Gulfstream Park and Golden Gate Fields in various capacities. On April 4, 2008, Mr. Hammerle spoke to classes on Organization & Administration of the Racing Department and Race Track Organizational Structure. He addressed topics such as the job of a Racing Secretary, dealing with artificial surfaces, and challenges that Santa Anita experienced with their poly track.

The University of Arizona's Race Track Industry Program (RTIP) is the only program of its kind. It offers two paths based on student interest. The Business Path prepares students for employment in the areas of race track management, regulation and pari-mutuel racing organizations. The Equine Management Path prepares students for employment in areas dealing with racing and breeding animals.
