The Resistance at Van, Van Resistance (Armenian: Վանի Հերոսամարտ (Vani Hyerosamart), Turkish: Van Direnişi) or Van Rebellion, Van Revolt (Turkish: Van İsyanı), Armenian Revolution at Van (Turkish: Van İhtilâli[4][5]) was an insurgency against the Ottoman Empire's attempts to massacre the Armenian population in the vilâyet of Van.[6] Several contemporaneous observers and later historians have pointed out that the Ottoman government deliberately instigated the armed Armenian Resistance by enforcing the conditions on their subjects [7] and then used this insurgency as a main pretext to justify the forced deportations of Armenians from all over the empire. However, the decisions of deportation and extermination were made before the Van resistance.[8]
De Nogales' assessment substantiated the reports of the other witnesses who maintained that the Armenian posture at Van was defensive and an act of resistance to massacre. Based mostly in the city of Van, it was one of the few instances during the Armenian Genocide when Armenians fought against the Ottoman Empire's armed forces. The fighting lasted from 19 April to 17 May 1915, when the Ottoman army retreated as Russian forces approached the city.

  • Van = Armenia

  • Van, Vasbouragan, Hayastan.

The Turks fooled the migrant, pastoralist Kurds to kill the sedentary, civil Armenians.

Honest Kurds will admit VAN was the main city--the center of the ARMENIAN NATION -- the Armenian people. They regret how Turks duped them.

Industries, the cat, the architecture, churches, people, homes, the vinyards, all stolen and converted "Turkish" ( food and apricot industry) or thrown into shredders. My mother's parents were orphaned, shredded: one grew up in an orphanage.

  • both Kurds and Armenians have lived in van.together in peace for a long time before the disgusting turks came in.we all know van is Armenian its part of our identity as Armenians to say otherwise is blatantly foolish we Armenians have always shared our country with other ethnicity and most of the time in peace even now with others in our country we don't treat people as less than a human because of their ethnicity. no doubt that van is ours but politics and truth don't work well together.

  • Van = WESTERN ARMENIA

  • @MshoSultanKarapet So what? Maybe Van is a word in Kurdish. What do you know? Our name for Ararat is Ciyaye (Chiyaye) Agiri, Ciyaye Alavhat and Gridax (Gridakh). All 3 names are used, but many Kurds simply just use Ararat, the Armenian word. I've already explained my view, Van and Ararat should be used as a uniting element for Kurds and Armenians, not opposite. You're acting like Turks now. They are more busy taking and claiming than sharing. Let's not follow the Turkish model. Hangistitun aper.

  • However it seems fairly reasonable to conclude with this, that Armenians were definitely the majority population North of Lake Van for thousands of years. History clearly proves this. But there were probably Kurds who lived there too. I believe in ancient times, our relations were good, in general, so we kind of intermingled to some extent. Also Arabs have nothing to do with Kurds. When Kurds have lived nearby Van for at least 5,000 years, then we have good historical foundations. Peace aper. =)

  • @donthakiller lol ararat or van is not kurdish to share kurds many kurds say that i saw a documantary how kurds explain why van is armenia or aratat van is not eaven a kurdish word van tatvan yerevan vanadzor
