Army-Navy Game: On December 10, 2011, U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to attend the Army-Navy football game along with numerous dignitaries at FedEx field in Landover, Maryland. This is the first time that the Washington D.C. area which will host the storied 112th Army vs. Navy game. The game is the only game on the NCAA college football game on the schedule and will kick off at 2:30pm EST on CBS Sports to a national audience. An article in the Wall Street Journal entitled, "More Than Games Lie Ahead For Army-Navy Players" states that "Players who will soon face dangers far greater than the triple option".
Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo stated that "There's also a chance they might have to pay the ultimate sacrifice. They'll be in harm's way — that's a reality. Another article covering the game is entitled "Landing Rivals An Olympic Coup For Washington Sports Committe", possibly insinuating that there may in fact me a military coup and quotes Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk as saying, "The nation's Capital provided a wonderful opportunity to commemorate and reflect on the 10th anniversary of September, 11th". Nike, the company providing the uniforms for the game, has outfitted Navy with undershirts featuring a snake representing the 13 colonies along with the script "Don't Tread on Me".
Terror Target: U.S. Military: Since November 30, 2011, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Congress have suddenly stated that the U.S. military is the top terror target. A hearing entitled "Homegrown Terrorism: The Threat to Military Communities Inside the United States", was the first-ever joint hearing convened by both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Connecticut Zionist Sen. Joe Lieberman, said the military has become a "direct target of violent Islamist extremism" within the United States. "The stark reality is that the American service member is increasingly in the terrorists' scope and not just overseas in a traditional war setting".
"In the five years subsequently, these type of plots nearly doubled, and 14 innocent Americans have been killed -- 13 at the Fort Hood Army base and one at a military recruiting station. Clearly, the threat of homegrown terrorism has increased dramatically, and clearly, members of the Armed services are a high-value target. I look forward to a deeper explanation of these trends and the development of a clear strategy to protect our military from terrorism here at home," said Lieberman
Representative Peter King of New York stated that "And if they (military personnel) can be killed, then that is a great propaganda victory for al Qaeda," King told Fox News. King said there is also evidence that extremists have joined the services. "There is a serious threat within the military from people who have enlisted who are radical jihadists," King said. "The Defense Department is very concerned about them. They feel they're a threat to the military both for what they can do within the military itself and also because of the weapons skills they acquire while they're in the military." The Majority Staff of the House Committee on Homeland Security has been conducting an investigation, which finds that 70% of the plots against military targets occurred since mid-2009 -- including the two successful homeland attacks since 9/11. Other key findings:
1. More than 5 terror plots have been disrupted involving U.S. military insiders in the past decade and at least 11 or more cases involved veterans or those who attempted to join law enforcement and intelligence agencies. The likelihood of another deadly attack by a trusted insider is a severe and emerging threat, which the Pentagon is aggressively investigating to identify perpetrators;
2. 2 successful attacks against the military outside of Afghanistan and Iraq were perpetrated by radicalized soldiers assigned to U.S.-based Army units: at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait in 2003 and at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009;
3. At least 16 external terror plots targeting military personnel stationed inside the U.S. Homeland have been disrupted or investigated;
4. At least 9 other external plots were thwarted involving U.S. Persons in the homeland who traveled or planned trips overseas to kill G.I.s in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere;
5. A growing number of terrorist threats are directed at families of military personnel. Particularly at risk are relatives of troops in units involved in counterterror operations (DHS, 2011).
