HARVEY MASON / GUSTO: Welcome back to the world of sampling. This edition is a special 'Disco's Revenge'. In 1996, Ed Greene AKA Gusto released 'Disco's Revenge' which, at first, only contained one sample of 'Groovin You' by Harvey Mason. When the track became a hit, many remixes were released and make an extensive use of many samples from 'Groovin You'. Johnny Vicious, Deep Dish and David Anthony all remixed it, using different parts of the same disco classic.
Film director Robert Rodriguez even teamed up with his friend DJ Roger Sanchez for 'Desperado', a latin variation of 'Disco's Revenge', inspired by the movies 'From Dusk Till Dawn' and 'Desperado' (both directed by Rodriguez).
Over the years, 'Disco's Revenge' was remixed dozens of times, making it one of the most remixed House tracks ever. The Tamperer did his own version in 2001 and recent vocal remixes by The Freemasons still entertain the clubbers and House music fans alike today.
My favorite mixes are the original (of course), the Johnny Vicious remix and the Tamperer version. I never really liked the vocal mixes, so I don't really dig the Freemasons new versions. But it's all a matter of taste, and with 50+ versions, I'm pretty sure everybody can find it's favorite.
