Much-hated Elvis author Albert Goldman gets his butt kicked on live TV. He then complains that he is being "abused". Goldman's 1981 biography "Elvis" is one of the most controversial books of all time. Goldman claims he interviewed 200 people as part of his research, however, it came to light that the true figure was nearer 2. Goldman's personal dislike of his subject resulted in a vile, mean-spirited attack on Elvis and his fans. Goldman did a similar hatchet job on John Lennon, but it is for his biography on Elvis that he will always be remembered. Goldman knew exactly how far he could go without being sued and he knew how to distort the words of those he interviewed. He is interviewed here following the publication of his second Elvis book; ELVIS-The Last 24 Hours in 1990. He is saying he got it wrong the first time and he now believes Elvis commited suicide. His final comment on here is priceless!

  • The main problem with Goldman's bios ( I've read them all) is that he doesn't really like his subjects--even Lenny Bruce whom you can tell he dislikes by the end of that book. Also, the dude was born in 1927 and not part of the Rock generation--boy does it show too. His books on Elvis and Lennon lack any passion for each of their musics and any real insight to their essential characters. No empathy for your subjects turns biographies into little more than mud-throwing smear campaigns. Sad.

  • I love Elvis for his music and him as a man and the great persona. I think Albert Goldman has a right to say what he wants and seems convinced his conclusions are well founded. But I never heard anything but good things about Elvis and don't like hearing negative things about him.

  • In his book about Lennon, Goldman is the first one who

    1. musically anlysed several song, splended!

    2. revealed that McCartney wanted to give the impression he has done all of himself, scandalous

  • HAHAHA fuck him Albert Goldmans a fagget

  • ALBERT GOLDMAN WAS ABUSED BY HIS UNCLE LARRY WHEN HE WAS ONLY THIRTY TWO. HE WAS ALSO HEAVILY INTO COCAINE, HEROIN AND MARS BARS, AND WAS A REPRESSED HETEROSEXUAL.

  • @genericgeorge The books he sold were because ELVIS fans were buying them to burn. They kept the pictures of ELVIS.

  • @donn409 They were best sellers. Whether you agree or not with the views on his subjects, the books sold

  • Albert Goldman is wicked, etc. Let's take that for the sake of argument.

If so then it's idiotic for howler monkeys to scream at him. Even the host had to silence them. If Goldman's so wrong then they'd quietly show him up with each quote.

  • albert goldman, never wanted to tell the truth, he took anything negative he could find and built it up ten fold to give this very negative view of people who were actually very complicated individuals. there is nothing good or positive in his trash writing. a very low and hatefull person !

  • Goldmans books are EXCELLENT. Like it or not,Elvis WAS a junkie and Lennon(although not an evil man) was far from being a saint.
