Thousands of Roman Catholics attended a mass on Sunday led by Pope Benedict XVI in Sydney, Australia's largest city.

The service also marked the culmination of World Youth Day, an event the church hopes reached out to young followers, but Al Jazeera's Hamish Macdonald reports his visit had proved to be a challenge.

  • The sooner we are rid of religions and all their insane delusions the better!

  • @damageplanfan Yes this vile shit head of a Pope volunteered to join the Hitler Youth!

  • @RockyBalboa211 God bless the Catholic Church and all the paedophiles who live off it!

  • I do not think you should be waisting your time with PauloGVieira, I have never seen a bigger moron!

  • wasn't the pope in the hitler youth...

  • No, but I do predict that as currently serving Senior Vatican Clergy retire, the Church will continue the 2,000yr old practice of replacing them with "another member of the clergy". sshhh, it's a supa supa secret...let's not tell anyone....

  • Are you seriously telling me the men in their 70s and 80s that now run the Vatican will likely live for another 21 years? I respect that you believe in some sort of god but this is just plainly ridiculous.

  • Really, OK, come back here in say 21years - I'll put all I got on the RCC still being around! Obviously, you know nothing full stop!

  • LOL, the Australian nouveau riche is telling me that I know nothing about the Crusades!

You know that the Vatican is living on borrowed time, those old men have about 20 years before they all die off. The truth hurts.

  • Keep hanging on to events of centuries ago, which in truth you'd no f'all about -good excuse for doing nothing in life...
