I'm sure some people know about this by now, but one day I was making a video to show my friend how to access the real hidden track, not Mosquito Song, on the Songs for the Deaf album. It's pretty simple. First you have to have an original copy of the album. MP3's won't trigger the hidden song. The reason is because CD players cannot read anything before track 1, so when you rip MP3's, it won't catch it.

Anyway, put your CD into a CD player and hit play. You will hear the keys jangle, a vehicle turn over, and static hiss as the station tunes. Hold the rewind button and rewind it -past- track 1 into track 0. It may say 0, -1, or still say 1, but continue to record it until 1:32. The track starts at 1:34, but if you pass it, it will reset the CD. Stop around 1:32 and let go of rewind. The secret song will play, and continue right into track 1 normally. Enjoy.

  • I just tried that and I think that it is so cool! I can't believe I didn't discover that until now and I've had for about four years now.

  • ^^ Glad you found it useful. I think I stumbled across it on accident a while ago, and just let it be. Then when I made the vid for a friend, he agreed I should put it on youtube. The wiki site mentioned lower shows a whole plethora of CD's that have it as well.

  • Very useful.I'm gonna do it on my cd.

    Thanks a lot.

  • Hey, no problem. Trevorsteph is right, if you wiki "pre-gap" you'll get a really long list of CD's that have pre-gaps to them. Pretty interesting thing to do.. a nice treat to an album if the pre-gap is worth it.

  • the song is called "The Real Song For The Deaf" because deaf people (or hard of hearing, like myself) can feel the vibrations.

  • That's sweet. I remember that being it's official title, but I didn't know why they did it for that reason. Thanks for the inside info.

  • Try rewinding further. I seem to remember that the track starts out with an electronic voice saying something like:

    "Hello? What?"

  • THANK YOU!! For posting how to do this!! I'd read about it and wathced clips of the track but nowhere said how to do it until now!! (I though it had somehting to do with backmasking) I'm going to go out to my car and try it right now!

  • Impossible not to do with pajama pants. too comfy.

  • this on their myspace

  • crazy i just tried that and if you get it perfectly to the start of the bonus song you hear someone say "what huh"

  • i got excited. this is present on the itunes version though, so i've heard it before!

  • i like the ball scratch at 1:32..

  • Real song for the deaf

  • Also in this track is a few more seconds of the Track 1 opening noise. At the beginning of the album you hear someone getting in the car, and KLON radio comes on. In the pregap track, you hear the rattling of the keys and such.

  • oh ive had this on my mp3 for ages without knowin u had to do all that, I just thought it was a pointless fill in
