The All Blacks's legendary Haka

Libertypresse International takes a closer look at the famous kiwi tradition of Haka to mark the All Blacks's arrival in Marseille for the 2007 Rugby World Cup

For more than a hundred years, New Zealand's rugby team has performed a maori war dance - the Haka - before each international match. It's part of the Maori people's folklore, and is used primarily to intimidate the opposition -- or the enemy -- before battle commences.

However, it's not simply a war dance ; as New Zealand's Ambassador to France Sarah Dennis explains, it's also a sign of respect.

The Manaia Maori dance troupe, currently touring France to help promote kiwi culture alongside the All Blacks, explain the pyschological impact and the competive value of the Haka.
