  • This is my favorite version. Maybe because it is the first version I heard but also because it is more upbeat than most of the others. Does anybody know what cartoon has the character hum this song then turn to the camera and say "I never understood that song"? Someone said my last name was in the song, but it says Rawlson and my name is Rollison. However Rollison is originally Swedish from "Rollo's son" so there might be a connection.

  • It was in a Warner Brother's Merrie Melodies Cartoon Titled "Horton Hatches The Egg" 1942.

  • Thanks for the posting. I have hunted for this song for quite a while. Wasn't this heard as background in the kitchen?

  • The song playing in the background when he is putting the red ryder bb gun ad in his mothers magazine is Sammy Kaye's - I Guess I'll Have to Dream the Rest. It continues into the kitchen scene and when Ralphie ask's his dad " I'll Bet You'll Never Guess What I Got You For Christmas?" It cuts into Sammy Kaye's Hut-Sut Song.

  • @burkeifyable Yes. They started it about 7 minutes into the movie, when the family is gathered for breakfast and Ralphie was asking his dad to guess what he got him for Christmas. Dad said "a new furnace?". The song goes on until after Ralphie's fantasy about Black Bart.

  • OMG, THANK YOU! I've been going nuts trying to track down this tune from the totally incoherent lyrics.

  • Oh man I love this.

Heard it on Dad's Army if anyone's interested, god bless DVD subtitles.

  • This was written and scored by a NORTH DAKOTAN, Leo Killion in 1941!!

  • Hahahah I love A Christmas Story! I remember seeing that movie when I was a child and ever since then I've been looking for that song, and now I have finally found it. Thank you for posting that video. Have a nice day.

  • there is a vastly superior version by lew stone and his orchestra, vocal by carl barriteua, i have this on vinyl but cannot find it on cd!!!

  • Thank you for posting this- its amazing for us "A Christmas Story" fans! :-)

  • @STEPCHILD240 The first time I heard this song I was reminded (a little) of the Looney Tunes theme song. Glad to find them all here on YT.
