This is the most perfect recording of this on records. Also live, it was just as satisfying.
Stands head and shoulders above all others.

I'm referring to Mrs. Price's singing.

If Schwarzkopf had heard her masterclasses!... She sings it just like if it was Italian opera. But it is a German composition. I must confess I don't like this version. It is about being completely in time with the music, with some inclination rather to accompain the orchestra than to lead it, producing beautiful singing and not showing the strong voice full of loud vibrato. Please don't get me wrong -- I love Leontyne. But to Strauss, this is hear-exploding and scruffy singing (i.e. awful).

This "fruhling" beats even Flemming's! I can't believe they haven't come out with a cleaned-up CD of this cycle. Onegin, you are one hell of a contributor to this site!

I can think of many, many, many...

Was there ever a more perfect Strauss voice? Thank you for posting this! It´s almost unbelievable.

WOW !! What a pure delight it is to hear her voice soar in Strauss' glorious music !!
A real perfect Strauss voice indeed. Hear how she soars and sustains her voice in this particularly difficult song cycle. Don't miss the other 3 songs.
