My first expansion board for the 8085 Single-Board Computer prototype: a PDSP1881 character display! For this project, I've modified a 24-pin socket to allow me to plug in a 2716-compatible EEPROM (this avoids waiting for UV EPROMs to be erased). The connector for the prototype board is made of extra-long machine pin SIP socket strips.

The program works with two main components: a circular array storing the null-terminated message string, and a FIFO buffer for the LED display. The code was written in pure 8080/8085 Assembly. For more information, check out http://www.glitchwrks.com/8085projects/

I'll have this project with me at the Maker Faire in NYC this weekend -- look for the MARCH (Mid-Atlantic RetroComputing Hobbyists) tables!
