I was a real fanatic of this show. I forget just how good this program really is and how pivotal it was in my life as an early twenty something. One of the few shows that I thought could have been written only for me. Then, of course, with the internets, we find we are not alone in our response to such things. I loves the internets, and you for posting this piece!

This episode makes me cry EVERY time I see it; it's just so poignant & beautiful! Joel & Maggie had one of those relationships where they were meant to come together for a reason, to help each other grow and evolve - it's just too bad Rob Morrow had to leave the cast, so they had to make it not work out for Joel & Maggie in the end. I guess that does happen in real life, too, though; relationships sometimes end even when people truly love each other and have been through so much together...

It just amazes me how great this show was. Writing. Acting. Music. Everything seemed to fit just right. This, the Simpsons and nhl playoffs. The only three things that will ever be really worth watching on t.v.

Northern Exposure was, to me, the best show that i've ever seen on television. 2000 years from now, when our great great great grandchilidren are in silver shiny spacesuits and people are flying around on floating hovercraft platforms, in arts departments at major world universities, professors and artists will be sitting around raving about this show as the peak of television, and the world will look on it with admiration like we do Beethoven or Shakespear now...

Agree that this original is better.

Breaks my heart every time - one of my favourite shows; the young Rob Morrow; gorgeous Jannine Turner; New York with the twin towers.

@chichikov8 I disagree. The thing is - he returned to NY as a transformed individual. Meaning that it didn't really matter where he was. His longtime wish was fulfilled once he became an integral individual and realized he is complete no matter where he lived - all the wantings, wishings and attachments were only a part of his former individua. Hence, "NY is a state of mind".

That should have been the end of the series, right there.

Thank you for this!!!
I hadn't seen it w/ the original music since it aired!
Takes me right back to the most powerful moment I ever experienced while watching TV. How did you find this?

I searched it and found it on the web and I was so happy for that. I mentioned before that they aired this show till the end of season 4 in Hungary. One Hungarian cable channel bought this show and they just started to air it this week again. I hope they have got season 5 and 6 this time.
