My first cover of the band Periphery. I'm really new to djent-like music so I've had quite a bit to work on regarding playstyle, amplification, recording and mixing.

I know that there are some weird stuff in here, so I figured I'll point out the obvious ones:
- The drum fill @ about 1:40-1:41 is wrong.
- The solo is poorly executed and possibly wrong, but thats the result of actually learning the solo when I woke up and recorded it 1 hour or so later.
- I didn't do the clean parts because I'm lazy and because I couldn't find a decent clean sound.
- I know the actual drum set that Matt Halpern use is alot smaller featuring basically 2 cymbals, 2-3 toms, 1 china etc. The Metal Foundry kit I used is alot bigger.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy it! During this process I even got to test out my new camera, Panasonic HDC-SD10, and I got to try some editing in Sony Vegas 9.0 Pro.

  • For video editing I used Sony Vegas 9.0 Pro. Thanks!

  • Nah, i think it sounds sick as is. Do you have a band that plays this kinda music? 'cause you're pretty awesome, so I figure a band you're in would be the same, and I'm always looking to expand my musical selection.

  • @AStaticCharacter No, I am currently without a band and I've been so for quite a while. I've really tried to try the concept of making my own "band" and sort of writing all the instruments. You can check me out on the links on my channel and my newest song called Corruption.

  • just amazing fantastic performance man! he du fått ny gitar??

  • @Kollipoki Yes sir, takk takk! I'm using an Ibanez UV777BK on this video.

  • Sick. Did you do all of the instruments or just the guitar? Cause it sounds a little bit different then the original, tone wise.

  • @AStaticCharacter Thanks! I only did the guitars on this one. Everything else is basically MIDI-instruments. Using Superior Drummer 2.0. with The Metal Foundry for the drums, Xpand! 2 for bass. DAW is Pro Tools LE 8.0.

So this is basically just converted from any Guitar Pro file from ultimate-guitar or whatever and imported into the above mentioned software.

If you'd like I could possibly make a backing track for this tune.

  • What software did you use to edit the video?

  • Dude, that was awesome.. the solo sounds fine to me... Great job man

  • Hey, LOVE your Universe, those things are pure awesome.

Anyway, what did you use for camera/multi-view editing?

  • Kick arse, with i could get my midi to work half decent like that!

  • djently good!

  • @Mumublues well, the word djent is actually an onomatopoeia 4 the sound the guitar makes during palm muted chugs or barre chords. a lot of the bands labeled as djent have certain effects that they use which give it that "djent" sound, like periphery. typically djent bands also have odd time signatures giving it an element of mathcore
