Great infield drill. Most coaches at higher levels have this in their bag of tricks. It is a great way for your infielders to spend the few minutes before stretch each practice. Working on the hands. Hope the explanation helps you understand why and how to implement this into your practice schedule

  • Love the Spiderman reference. I will use that with my son.

  • Coach B, I would never teach my kids to anticipate the ball landing inside a hulahoop because there is always a good chance of an inbetween hop. Instead I teach fielding the ball on the true hop, What I mean by this is to make sure you get to the ball and don't let it get to you. Plus the biggest factor in fielding is anticipation, meaning on every pitch you have to believe that the ball will be hit to you. Good Luck from Coach D.

  • Shouldn't you field those with two hands? And not just one?

  • only good for first base. any other position should caress the ball not scoop through

  • 1st basemen need this the most when I played I always had good scoops but only one kid out of 11 have good scoops I hope this drill will help.

  • The throwing hand should normally be placed over the heel of the glove. I never did short-hop drills from my knees but maybe its harder to put both hands out there. Balancing or something *shrug*

  • I dont really agree with this. If the ball is infront of you, you should try to catch it with two hands. Have soft hands then bring it to your waste.

  • This isn't soft hands... You've locked elbows and are hard. Similar drill on here by white sox academy is better for shorthop.

  • How about doing backhand picks

  • Shouldn't you field those with two hands? And not just one?

  • @utube44439 the ball would bounce more unpridictable in grass. on dirt it makes the ball hop higher.

  • Very Good video... this has helped me in improving my game
