Don't worry about the ink, it is soy based in 99% of newspapers

Nice idea, great for starting seedlings that need a bit more space for the roots. Maby a layer of duct tape on the outside of the paper might help the container become more stable.

Dave, tried this and after couple of days the top of the media has fungus formed due to consistent moisture.. I am keeping this indoor.. Do we need to water the tub once it becomes dry so that fungus or mould is not formed

And worms love it! This is the simplest quickest paper pot methods I've seen so far... thanks!!! It's those tender rooted fellows that want an early start without the disturbance...

Look up capillary action, it soaks up the water from the bottom and brings it up through the paper and soil. Water when the paper is almost dry again.
