2010.05.04 Trillium, VIA in St Catarines, Thorold, Welland Canal and the Blue Ghost Tunnel.wmv

There are alot of good railfanning spots in the St Catharines and Thorold area but the trains don't run very frequently. I missed CN frieght getting from one location to another. The Blue Ghost Tunnel is the old Grand Trunk Western tunnel built to go under the Old Welland Canel, now it's abandoned. There's lots of info on the Blue Ghost Tunnel or the BGT on You Tube.

I was living in the Niagara Region a while ago. I've seen train tracks in the middle of some streets in Thorold. I've never seen trains street running whenever I was there. Do they still do this? Did they stop long time ago?

@TheRantingCabbie I haven't ween any street running either when I was there a few years ago. I know at CN Port Rob yard and Fort Erie has action.

@richarducp8200 I went at a bad time. I waited for a boat to go though, but apparently it was stuck, so I waited another half hour when the tugboat's went through. After, I just left. Hope to go back. I got some great photo's though.

My old playground when I was a young teenager. We used to swim in parts of the old canal. Walked through the old rail tunnels in the winter when the water was frozen. Across the canal from where you videoed the Trillum train is where I work at the Abitibi Bowater Paper mill(old Ontario Paper when I started almost 38 years ago). Great video. brought back a lot of great memories.
