Excerpt from Town Hall meeting held in San Antonio, Tx Aug 24, 2009 by Congressman Charlie A Gonzalez. Constituent John D Hall, out of fairness and disclosure allows the Congressman the knowledge he would be running against him and then poses the question of the Constitutional authority for HR 3200. The question remains unanswered. However the establishment of the COnstitution being a "guide" was established.
This is not free healthcare as you promised, you are going to loose your job, when you come up for re-election, thing is we "MUST BUY" our own healthcare. You gave that drug lord felipe caldearon a standing ovation, when you should have told him to "GET OUT OF OUR COUNTRY"! I lost my job as a carpenter to an illegal mexican, which was your cousin, and whom you paid a coyote from mexico $5,000 to bring him over to the USA.

I attended this Town Hall and I can tell you all that Charlie was squirming; no he hadn't read the healthcare bill, but he voted for it ~ typical "don't think, just vote yes" on all dem. bills. He has got to go. Please help vote him out of office.

Actually while the women on the east coast may not have had equal rights, the women of the west did. They enjoyed the rights of men, namely because they stood toe-to-toe with the men. These were not tea-drinking elitists, but hardened, independent women. In fact, during suffrage, the east coast women asked their counterparts in the west to help them attain the voting rights that the western females already had.
So Gonzo is wrong on that point as well. The man is historically illiterate.

Mr. Gonzales has no respect for the Constitution. It looks like his district has enough blacks in it who are comfortable with slavery to reelect him. It is a real shame but they are products of our public education system.

"Do you think they even imagined the emancipation proclamation?"
Yes. Which is why the Constitution prevented the Congress from prohibiting the importation of slaves and why subsequently we had the 13th amendment.
"Did women enjoy equivalent rights at that time?"
They did not. This is why we have the 19th amendment.

"...or a public education system"... Read More
Jefferson was a HUGE proponent of public education. In so being, he submitted an amendment to the Constitution so that the federal government may provide for it. The amendment was never considered so he focused his efforts on his state of Virginia.

"Do you think they [the founders] really foresaw a public highway system?..."
Yes, Madison, a proponent of such a system nevertheless vetoed the bill that would have created it as he saw no Constitutional authority for it. I am constrained, he said, by the insuperable difficulty I feel in reconciling the bill with the Constitution.
