Ionic wind from the wand (mini Van de Graaff generator) which, with the Triboelectric effect creates enough electrostatic potential to accelerate air molecules.

  • Interesting video, memeome, but what is the piece of aluminum foil doing on the end of the wand? Also, are the smoke particles also being ionized or are they just simply being pushed by the ionized air and high potential?

  • The foil concentrates the charges in a small point, where the air molecules become charged and repeled as wind.

  • Very cool and informative - Thanks! Any details on your power supply? I have a video of some of the tests I have done using Schlieren photography to see the airflow around high voltage electrodes.

    Thanks again - great video!

  • How much power was used to generate that little bit of wind?

  • Can you contact me? I want to create an ion wind, not a neutral wind.

  • Really cool. If you have time, please keep me posted about "ion wind" data. I am fascinated by this phenomena and would really like to learn more :).
