In the Churchs calendar, May is the month dedicated to Mary because it is the month in which two Marian liturgical feasts are celebrated: the feast of Mary, Queen of Apostles, celebrated the first Sunday after the Ascension, and the feast of the Visitation on May 31st.This is why, on May 7th, Romes Lay Centre at Foyer Unitas hosted a Marian exhibit featuring paintings and other art from throughout the centuries. Special attention was given to paintings by Antonello of Messina and works from the Redemptoris Mater Chapel in the Vaticans Apostolic Palace. Reflecting the theme Mary our Mother: Symbol of certain hope, Donna Orsuto, director of the Lay Centre, said that May is considered the month of beginnings, where life and hope grow. The exhibit coincided with the announcement that the Lay Centre will be mp4ing to the Monastery of Saints Paul and John in the heart of Rome. It is called an oasis in the city because it is located in the middle of the largest garden in the city, with views of the Roman Forum and the Coliseum.
