A Six-Star Hotel Project is being launched for the first time in Sri Lanka targeting the development of the tourism industry
The Tourism Ministry is playing a pivotal role in this respect. The aim of the project is to bring the local tourism industry to international level by the year 2016. Hilton is the only Hotel which is in operation with a foreign hotel company. Sri Lankas development and economic growth was severely affected due to terrorism. However, with the dawn of peace, a progmme has been undertaken to develop the country. Promoting the tourism sector is one such measure. The Tourism Ministry has agreed to develop the tourism and hotel sector with the support of foreign hotel companies. Initially, a Six Star Hotel Project is planned in the Kalpitiya area.
Briefing the media in Colombo in this respect, Minister Faizer Mustapha said there 28 percent development had taken place in July. Special attention is being directed at Kalpitiya. 4000 acres had been acquired. Massive development is possible in this field when international firms venture into Sri Lanka. He said this is a luxury hotel chain engaged in upmarket tourism.
Infrastructure from the Katunayake International Airport up to Kalpitiya will be developed. It is desired to build a new tourism image through this hotel project. Minister Navin Dissanayake said Six Senses Resort is one of the top hotel management companies in the world. They had succeeded in inviting this company into the country. The necessary investment would be possible from China, India and the Middle-East. It is hoped to open the six-star hotel in Kalpitiya by November 2011.
oh man that does not look like its going to be rate six star, it looks like 3 star just by the plan and plan always looks better than actual construction
