Brazil's Rio de Janeiro is chosen as host city for the 2016 Olympic Games by the International Olympic Committe in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The win marks the first time the Olympics will be held in South America and thousands celebrated on Rio's Copacabana Beach.
Rio faced the Spanish capital Madrid in the final round of voting by IOC members, with finalists Chicago eliminated in the first round and Tokyo in the second.

Comment on the side: Too bad Obama invested so much political capital in trying to get Chicago - only to get 18 votes out of the 94 votes cast by IOC members. Pretty bad and certainly a bad impression on the President.
