@magdalenojuan actually, it is how it happens. It also happens gradually. Yes, probably some kids are atheist because their friends are. But the same applies to any theist kid. Social pressure doesn't change. I'm sure you can find closet atheists because their social environment couldn't accept atheists. Atheism IS the default position. Or perhaps agnostic atheism.

@magdalenojuan Trust me, man, it doesn't work that way. Atheism isn't the 'cool thing' to do. Kids get bullied for stuff like that. I've been bullied for stuff like that. Nonbelief in deities is something that does 'just happen'. Some people just aren't content with the eyes-closed ways of previous generations, and want to look at things their own way. It happens, and I congratulate this brave kid on breaking free of his family's oppressive beliefs.
