21 deaf and mute members of the China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe perform in the 2005 CCTV Spring Festival Gala. A shorter version of the dance debuted at the 2004 Athens Paralympics.

Guanyin is the Goddess of Mercy in Chinese folk religion. She is a variant of the male Buddhist figure Avalokitesvara. Her full name, Guanshiyin Pusa, means "bodhisattva who observes the sounds of the world".
