"For me there's nobody handles Handel like you handle Handel." Preston Sturges silly somber "Unfaithfully Yours" (1948) marks a turning point for classic screwball comedy. Transatlantic classical conductor and inanely jealous hothead Sir Alfred de Carter (Rex Harrison) believes his young trophy wife is having an affair. Setting him straight is Sweeney the Private Eye (Edgar Kennedy). "Maybe I shouldn't be saying it, but if it was me I'd never have 'em tailed. I'd never try to find out nothin'. I'd just be grateful for whatever they was willing to give me: A year. A week. An hour..." On the other hand, OBrien the Tailor (Julius Tannen) knows a Congressman when he sees one.

  • Thanks so much for the correction re "O'Brien". Anyone who honors Buster Keaton is an honorable person indeed! And I agree with you about "Slow Burn" ... imagine what his work day must have been like on the back lot ... call the fire department!

  • My eternal love to you Grandpa Julius.

    Hello,

I got another note from another You Tuber about Grandpa Julius (see below) ... wonder if you know each other ... or are you the same person, with two channels?

I never got to know my beloved grandfather, Julius Tannen. And, thanks to you, I'm able to watch him act.

    Thank you! :)

  • Best scene in the movie, and Edgar Kennedy should have received an Academy Award nomination posthumously, but let's face it, real comedians seldomn received a nod of acceptance in old Hollywood. Incidentally, Juliuis Tannen does not play "O'Brien" as the credit role indicates...when Sir Alfred asks him, "Are you Sweeney?" Tannen replies sarcastically, "Who, me? I'm not O'Brien."

  • @LoveOldBugs He is great in this scene, and so many others.

  • Yep, Tracy also rides Harleys! That's me!

Thanks for keeping this up for me to watch. It means a lot.

  • one of the funniest movies ever made.
