@Poopingbotham What you see on the wing aren't cannon bulges (if you referring to the 2 strips you can see), they're strengthening plates that were added to the wings to help cushion the blow of landings on harder ground, they were first added to the Mk II. As for the Griffon part, the pilot was mearly pointing out that IF you were in a Griffon Spitfire there would be an extra 2 feet of nose compared to the earlier ones.
The BBMFs MkIIa P7350 is the only airwothy BOB Vet Spit in the world

This aircraft was first designed in 1935, only 32 years after the Wright Bros got their first powered contraption into the air! To my mind it has made advances in that period every bit as radical as the same period to the fighter aircraft of 1972. He comes across as rather condescending, which is disappointing and demonstrates, to me at least, that pilot quality since 1940 has not evolved at the same pace.
PS You want to watch his contribution on the ME109!!

Ok, he says you would have the field of view directly in front of you blocked even more if you had a Griffon powered spit, he isnt confused with this being a merlin powered variant... second, he is comparing the plane with jets and basically saying compared to today this thing is shit, but in its day it was amazing. Edmundcycles, the P-47 was not MUCH better than a p-51... it was a better ground attack plane. No pilot would dogfight a P-51 vs a P-47 and take the thunderbolt. I am calling BS

The P-51 was ok at some things great in none. P47 was a much better fighter than the P51 . The typhoon was faster at low level and could turn and climb faster than the P51 . The tempest was faster , better turning , up to 15K than the P51.

The hurricane had a much better field of view . the hurricanes nose drooped a little more so you can see over it. The pilot sat much higher up in the hurricane too . It could be the MkII or I as these were test fitted with the B wing towards the end of the BoB , It's not a griffon spit as the engine has only small fairings over the exhaust stacks .
As a note the P51 wasn't that great a plane to fight in . It was slow rolling the turn rate was bad and turn radius was bigger than the P47

Now I'm totally confused. The narrator described it as a Mk 1 BofB veteran. TopGunSGA (below) describes it as a Mk 2 and Paul Day (the pilot) describes it as a GRIFFON Spitfire. The cannon bulges in the wing dismisses it as a Mk 1 or 2, so I'll go for the Griffon
And why the hell does this vintage military aircraft have a non-authentic coat of gloss paint? There's always someone determined to spoil things

@lennonmccartneybeat He sayd that all things bad couse of modern jetfighters view (pilot wiev) - that's all.. and (even i Love this plane to) he undfurtunatelly hes right about it.. Those machines had many bad solutions.. but in those ages they didn't know how to build good fighting planes.. only a beutyfull and good flying..:)
Funny how he makes one of the best airplanes of WWII sound like a piece of crap, lol.

Why do you complain about the nose ? And how long it is, leave the spitfire alone, its beautiful ? One question i would love to ask this pilot, 'Where would YOU put the engine?'. Heres some paper, and a pen, go re design it if you think your soo special
