actually you dont get extra carve for breaking the claws, you get an extra reward. Same goes for the shell. And if you happen to break his claws, he will stay in rage mode for the rest of the fight. Thats atleast how it is in MHFU, i dont know how much they changed...

S.Ceanataurs shell can be broken with cutting weapons, it's D.Hermitaur that can only be broken by impact.

@titoukey Hmm I thought you can break his shell if you put enough damage on it. I faced it with a light bowgun and broke the shell.

Uh... DS doesn't do impact dmg right, and that shell is only beakable with it ? Or am i mistaken ?

I think dual swords can't brake his shell as it is considered as a cutting weapon, as opposed to impact weapons: hammer, GS, gunlance. Use these to get special material

with great sword, these two are easy: wait for them to stop, charge lvl3 and repeat (don't forget you can block their charge).
Hammer is okay too. The problem with longsword is that it'll bouce off... you'll need an ESP skill to hit'em safely...

The trick here is to demonize. Try never hit him without demonizing first, it's the only way to not bounce. :)
