Learn About Green Cheeked Conure

Another real popular type of bird is the Green Cheeked Conure. Conures get a real bad reputation sometimes for being very loud. But the Green Cheeked Conure is a type of Conure that's not real loud at all. They call them the quiet conures, doesn't mean they don't make any noise at all, but comparatively speaking, they're very quiet. Very playful, very cuddly, they absolutely love to go into things and curl up in your hair at night or go in tents to sleep, very playful, and really good at learning tricks.

Green Cheeked Conure has a lot of different mutations. So mutations are almost like hair color. This is what's called a yellow sided mutation, I also have, this is a pineapple mutation. Some other mutations of the Green Cheeked Conure are the Turquoise mutation and the Cinnamon Turquoise. The Turquoise mutation and the Cinnamon Turquoise are new mutations and have only been around for a couple of years. A few years ago when they first started getting these from breeders, they were very expensive because nobody had seen them before. And these little guys were selling for about four-five times of what they sell for now, but we see them a lot more frequently now.

They breed for specific colors, if you see a flock of pigeons outside and you see one that's white, that's a mutation; different than the norm. So what a breeder will do is when they've got a bunch of Green Cheeked Conures if one comes out that's different than the norm, they'll hold onto it and breed it with a hopefully they can find one that's similar to breed for that specific color.
