GARTH KEYBOARD SOLOAH!!!!
-
It's like old timey, rock'n'roll, and soul at the same time.
-
I love the lurched-over "Rule, Britannia!" keys

It is baffling to me why Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Band never had a song that went #1 on the U.S. Billboard. The highest CCR's songs ever went was #2. It is a big crime and waste because both CCR and The Band had better Songs in 1969 and 1970 a lot better than Other Singers/Groups overrated Songs that went #1 on the U.S. Billboard in 1969 and 1970.

does Robbie look stoned?

@burtonsnwbrder07 You are wise beyond your years!!
-
Robbie is a pompous ass, but no one can ever say he's not a brilliant writer.
-
@mexicansmell It's hard to believe Robbie and Levon were in the same band together. But it's not hard to believe that Levon can't stand Robbie. Robbie talks like the biggest self absorbed prick I've ever heard.

@burtonsnwbrder07 good job on keeping the music alive.....

@gilmour73 Marcus is referring to listeners of the album feeling like "foreigners in their own country." He's not referring to The Band themselves.
I love that Rick played the fiddle down at his chest in that old-timey style. It just adds to the illusion that these guys were deposited here from another time and place.

@gfh110 never thought of that but guess you're right. Me thinks that is one their trademark features, this odd habit of once in a while throwing in something unexpected in the given context (or at least using it in an unusual way). the fiddle and jews harp in rag mama, the mandolin in rockin chair, the clarinette in unfaithful, etc etc

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is one of those songs that is embedded in American history forever I believe. Last week on a night out with a bunch of my friends (18 to 19 years old) I had this album on and that song came on everybody stopped and listened for 3 and a half minutes and when it was done. This girl turned to me and said "Wow, who was that?" and of course I replied the The Band.

@burtonsnwbrder07 yea it will be in the books forever and I will sing it with my daughter as soon as I get the chance, you can count on that!

"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" is one of the truly amazing songs and it does sound a bit odd with anyone but Levon singing it, but someone had to write it.

yea Levon was born to sing it and its basically his material although he coudnt articulate it, but I dont think it sounds bad at all, just different. Have a look at the weight here on UT where they are included in canadian hall of fame where Rob sings, thought it would be a disaster but it was none of the sort.
