Noorderzon 2010: Tomoko Mukaiyama wasted (the installation)

wasted is a fascinating organic, architectonic installation of 12,000 white silk dresses whichform a constellation of passageways with in the heart: the 'Red Room'. They gradually decrease in number, as each female visitor is allowed to take a dress home. You can enrol for this project via www.wasted.nl or at the location in the Stadsschouwburg itself. There are two conditions: first, the dress must be worn during 'the time of the month' and second,the woman must elaborate on her experiences with her own body and femininity in a form of her own choosing. Mukaiyama has observed that women do not talk easily about thei rmenstruation. With wasted she now attempts to break down this taboo. Next to the installation, Mukaiyama also presents an exclusive piano concert.
