Gareth Malone forms a choir with the military wives & partners left behind by troops away in Afghanistan.

Choirmaster Gareth Malone believes singing can help people through the most difficult times of their lives. Armed with his keyboard, Gareth has been invited to RMB Chivenor military base in north Devon, where the troops are about to deploy for a six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

While the troops are away, Gareth hopes to start a choir with the wives and girlfriends left behind to help them through the worrying time.

Gareth soon discovers that living on an isolated estate on the edge of the military base has left the wives longing to have a voice to express the difficulty of their lives. But can he inspire his fledgling choir to have the confidence to sing in public?

  • i love that

  • megmo 1571 just be thankfull they do there jobs ,if not we would be speaking german , ,PLUS todays soldiers return after 6 months ,my uncle in the 2 world war was away 2 and a half years , when the ship came back he did .todays ships have 2 sets of crew ,one out one in ,

  • I don't understand how any man can leave their families for 6 months (especially those with babies who may not even recognise them when they come back) to fight wars that are unjust and illegal... Is it wrong that I do not respect their actions?

  • I would actually love to be in Gareth's choir!!

  • @MrPeteMB said "Well done on bringing together these women and for such a good cause too."

I suppose you haven't considered the Iraqi and Afghan death toll since our fucking invasion then?

I suppose you haven't considered the the immoral, unjust and cruel destruction, displacement and blatant murder being committed by these men in our name?

I suppose you just don't consider anything.

  • I have never watched any of Gareth's Choir programmes, until this. I thought the bloke was a bit of a 'wolly', - boy how wrong was I! He is clearly a thoughtful, caring, clever and upstanding fellow with bundles of talent and charisma. Well done on bringing together these women and for such a good cause too.

The single is fantastic and very moving. My fingers are crossed for this to be a very deserving Christmas no. 1.

  • Are you allowed to say Hi Jack in a military base?! lol, well done Gareth, epic work. Thanks for uploading these!

  • What can I say, except a huge thank you for uploading, I missed the series and wanted to see it because, I had heard so much about it. Absolutely brilliant, I cried most of the way through it. Well done to our military wives, you did us proud, Will definitely be buying Wherever you are, Good luck for Christmas No1 you really deserve it.

  • Thank you so so much for uploading these!!
