This recording, produced by George Martin in October 1960, features the voice of Peter Sellers, accompanied by the Temperance Seven (and by some hisses and pops, dubbed directly from a scratchy 78-rpm record!)

The original liner note is as follows: "Please do not return this recording to your dealer because you think it's got bumps and cracks in it, for this is a Novelty Fox Trot with Vocal refrain made, early Autumn 1927, in the Reading Room of the British Museum and only recently exhumed. This number will be treasured by all who have a taste for the macabre."

"Ukulele Lady" was written in 1925 by Gus Kahn and Richard Whiting.

  • Thank you. I want to hear every note recorded by the Temperance Seven. My own collection was stolen by a man called Tony Cave, so if anyone knows where he is please let me know . . .

  • I say are you foreign?

  • to eruptionista: what an amazing coincidence! My complete Temperance Seven collection was also stolen by Tony Cave, although at that time he was calling himselph Theodore Hector de Bunga. I'm sure it was the same man. The M.O.'s match.

Does this man's depravity know no boundaries?

  • I have this song on a record by Peter Sellers (with Sophia Loren) made in 1961 but my version includes hearing the needle land on the record as well as the wows and flutters. I prefer this version to original 1921 recordings that have been remastered and 'purified'. It sounds more like an original. By the way, The Temperence Seven (no connection with The New Vaudeville Band) appeared briefly in the 1966 film 'The Wrong Box', a great British film.

  • Is it The New Vaudeville Band?

  • Sounds like Peter Sellers with the Bonzo Dog Band, lol

  • This song was played in the movie "the cider house rules".

  • hope tc suffers something awful

  • Sweet!

  • Great Camp[!

  • what country? Naughty Tony, give them back!
