In nature, when a species population grows too high they begin to starve to death, spread disease in their community or succumb to natural predators. What makes us so arrogant to think that we are immune to this? And if there are ways to avoid this natural process, would they be worth it? what's required to control a population other than rich bureaucrats deciding who has kids and how many and what happens when you break the rules? how do you enforce it?
@bluefirekey The alternative to thousands of millions dying of disease is birth control. "Nobody" decides who has children, but very strict rules should exist (the same for everyone), if you don´t follow the rules then you would be sterilized. Many things will have to happen before this is possible. i have no idea if this will happen during my lifetime or if it will take centuries, i only know that everything happens by cause and effect, and as little as it may be i´m sowing a seed.
@bluefirekey For this to become a reality (worldwide birth control) we need persons in the highest government positions who are really responsible and who really care for the wellbeing of their fellow human beings. This could take centuries, but i assure you that eventually IT WILL HAPPEN. The internet is changing the world, day by day this will become more evident.
@bluefirekey Both things are important. Today we only have one planet, even if resources are used more efficiently in the future if population continues growing the time will arrive when there will not be any "new" land for agriculture left. Also one has to remember this planet is not only "ours" but that we share it with innumerable plants and animals that each day have less space to live freely and because of that are threatened with extinction.
@memoweb01 How do you decide who lives and who doesn't? For me it's a moral question. So which is more moral? To allow for a natural process that we may or may not be able to avoid? Or for us to decide which of our own kind lives or dies? Could YOU make that decision?
@bluefirekey Population should be controlled through worldwide birth control. Nobody has to choose "who lives or dies". Plain and simply there must exist very strict rules for having children. Violent criminals, drug addicts and others shouldn´t have children as they aren´t prepared to be responsible parents. The number of children each couple can have also must be limited. Nobody wants to be told how many children to have but it is a sad necessity with the current state of affairs.
You're right that none of the environmental problems we grew up with have gone away. Indeed they're only getting worse, and will only be solved by addressing overpopulation. Respect to you for speaking out!

it's not about how many people there are, but how our resources are used.
