This is no doubt a dirty air filter that just needs to be washed. And is/was to be expected. This is about a week after taken out of the box and operating in a very dusty environment during winter. Overall I'd say the owner has been very happy with the Oreck XL. So *grin* do not see this as a bad review as the manual of the machine handles this kind of event quite well. It's just something that was interesting to see/hear. :) Have a nice 2009 everyone.

  • Heh, my oreck xl does that right out of the box....filters not even dirty I think it has something to do with static electricity build up considering I do run it like 24/7

  • @TheGrimfantasy Sorry for the late reply. Ooh I hope it doesn't get noisy for you. Though I guess spark frequency will vary. Sometimes when I'm visiting and the owner has it own it's just a few sparks.. but once in awhile it's sparking like crazy and quite noisy (but for his situation it's quiet afterwards after the cleaning).

  • hmm well let me know if/when you make the video. Overall do you think its a good purifier? I've seen reviews all over the board.

  • I'll definitely let you know. Hopefully the owner didn't clean it already. If so I'll have to wait. Not sure if it's good. I don't have any reference to compare. I mean it works. Sucks air in than spews cold air out. And the filter / grill does get more dirty. But honestly (not meaning to sound like ZeroPunctuation game reviewer). I can get a knapkin more dirtier rubbing a nearby table. ^_^ I do like the settings. Silent, Mid, High. That was nice. I guess if I had cash to spare, I'd get it.

  • Kind of neat... i'd like to see someone "real" clean the filter. I'm sort of skeptical of the infomertial but if that was real than that is impressive.

  • Mmm I should see if I can clean it / make a video out of it. :) - As far as I know it's at least 2 items that need to be cleaned. One is this light easy to slide in and out grill. Kind of similar to what one might see in a cloth's dryer except the grill spaces are much larger on the Oreck. I think that is what caused most of the sparks in this video. Cleaning this is done with a vacuum cleaner. - Than 2 that big metal filter. I too would like to see if it's just hot water than cleans it. :)
