Glidecam HD-1000 - Canon Vixia HV30 - PCShopTalk.com

This is a test footage comparing the Glidecam HD-1000 with a Hand-Held Camera. Most of these videos were taken in windy conditions so it was a bit harder to control the HD-1000 however it still performed a lot better than the Hand-Held Camera footage.

I have not used any of the quick release plates from any company just yet. I am still using the old Glidecam HD-1000 plate. I am soon going to get a quick release plate though!

Excellent footage. Glidecam should be sponsoring you, you make them look so good. Great music, too.

I'm at the same decision-making point as you...Glidecam or Merlin...

Ultimately, I think it comes down to three things:

1. Cost. The Glidecam is as much as $500 (US) cheaper than the Merlin.

2. Learning curve. The Glidecam has been reviewed as simpler in setup, learning and use.

3. Quality. If there is a negligible disparity in quality between the Glidecam and Merlin, I'd say the Glidecam wins.

It depends on what you're using it for, but it looks like the Glidecam is a better choice.
