The Phoebe Snow Tribute Song

Tribute song for the Phoebe Snow, Lackawanna's premier flagship passenger train that ran from 1949-1966 from Hoboken NJ to Buffalo NY. The train replaced the Lackawanna Limited Steamer that burned anthracite coal, which was harder and burned cleaner thus allowing Miss Phoebe Snow to keep her clothes pearly white, which in turn garnered her fame and fortune! When diesels replaced steam, the Lackawanna renamed the train Phoebe Snow after their very popular, fictitious character.

Very nice, lots of views I haven't seen before! With alot of views of Elmira! Lots of high speed run bys too! Nice job, I loved it. Also a good shot of the mail service. Which was most of the income of the train. When the powerful highway interests got the government to put this on their trucks. It was the end of "Phoebe Snow" and many other fine trains. Now with Amtrak often selling long distance trains out. This powerful lobby is working to keep the trains dead.

@intercityrailpal Thanks for the encouragement! Sad these great trains are a thing of the past. Seems the new roads and bypasses have brought the end to many small businesses and small cities along with the railroads that used to run through them (like Corning and Elmira!)

@jlebaron1 I ride Amtrak so often the crew members know me! Just like they did on the Erie-Lackawanna when I was a kid. In a few years most of the air service will be gone. Why? the faster you go the more fuel you use. High fuel costs will kill most of the air service. It will just be gone! Just watch what happens in the next year or two. When Phoebe Snow made her last run gas was what? 30 cents a gallon? Those days are over.

@intercityrailpal There's always money for highways,waterways,airports. We even rebuilt the railroad in Iraq! But we can"t afford Amtrak. Or train service to Binghamton,Corning or Elmira!
