@leprincebeaumont. I have to agree as best I can understand you. But I don't even think its that well schooled. Both Agnes Baltsa and Shirley Verrett to my ears had the combination of truly seamless legato and hauteur that this musical writing is calling for. I'm sure DiDonato is a nice lady but on the basis of this sample I wouldn't want to hear her sing this in the theater. I get she's trying to bring drama but the singing sounds mannered and effortful to me .

no,she's a dramatic colorature...

She is a soprano sfogato. Meaning a soprano who can do both mezzo and higher, in short almost everything. Colbran was the most famous soprano sfogato in history.

She coming to Houston to sing this role. I really wanna see it now that I hear how beautifully she sings it.

Is there anything this brilliant and charming woman can't sing????? She fits into no vocal categories - except prima donna!

@AudreyN Help me; I thought this was Elizabeth's aria?

Is it possible for her to be any less fabulous? She's so ridiculous, I love her. And she makes a very striking Mary.
