After already a great day of wade fishing with my brothers earlier today (watch Wade Fishing 1/7/12) My older brother asked me if I wanted to hit the 2nd incoming tide and I thought "Why not!?" Got back to Dunedin at 6:00pm with only a little over an hour of light. Luckily we were able to fish our fishing spot because the two gentlemen that were there were calling it a day. Incoming was already 30min into, started out with a Mirrodine XL with Pro-Cure Mullet Sauce. With no luck I switched to my favorite Super Spook Jr. in bone n' silver. After about 20min working the lure slowly with 3 miss hits, I was determined to get one on. Little did I know, it was gonna be my personal best! Once changing the speed I hooked on. I knew it was a big one instantly, just not as big as I thought (Thank goodness I had my GoPro recording). With my drag on tighter than my normal settings (Tighter when fishing around other fisherman) I was able to get her in quite easy. Unfortunately she was hooked very bad. Had all three front treble hooks lodged inside her front mouth but also had all three back treble hooks lodged inside her left eye! and I couldn't save it :( Top water is dangerous as they get hooked all over the place when slamming the lure when it's in motion like that. She measured out to be a huge 6lbs 26 1/4". Knocking my previous 24" from last year during a kayak trip at Weedon. We fished well into the dark, I was able to pull in another 2 more trouts at 20 1/2" and 21 1/2" with a Mirrodine. Damn good way to end the day after a great morning and a fantastic night.

  • You have got to love the noise that Speckled trout makes when hitting top water.

  • Great looking trout! What type of camera set-up are you using and where is it positioned on you?

  • @rs1g123 I'm using the GoPro Hero 2 with the head strap. It's gonna look funny on you but provides the best pov action without the need of a camera man. Cause nobody wants to be the camera man when he can be fishing too.

  • I purchased a GoPro today and wanted to use it for the same purpose! Are you using wide angle mode?

  • @rs1g123 I'm using the 1080p mode in medium angle mode. For some reason the wide angle mode looks funny to me. Hope to see some videoa from you, good luck!
