I have owned multiple trucks over the past 12 years, and they have always been for work work work. I have always wanted to have a truck just for fun that I could fix up and didn't have to worry about it getting messed up on the logging roads and things. So I finally found a deal I couldn't pass up on this 1994 Peterbilt 379 3 axle daycab in fairly decent shape. So I bought it for $6500. Well I wanted it to be maneuverable as possible, and wanted to be able to park it in a regular parking spot, and wanted to be able to blast on by open truck inspection and weigh stations, and I wanted eventually to be able to take it around to car and truck shows just for fun. So I decided to make it into a pickup truck. What you see here is a work in progress. It still has a LOT of work before it is anywhere close to what I want it to be, but this is the progress I've made in what little time I've had over the past 4 and a half months. I only just recently got the pickup bed for it, so that's why it's not painted to match the cab and hood yet. But as soon as I get a chance, the bed is going to be painted black like the rest of the truck. So all I've done to it so far is:
Shortened the frame and removed one of the drive axles,
shaved the air horns and cab lights off the roof,
mounted the drop visor with cab lights mounted in it,
installed the straight miter cut 6 inch stacks,
and painted it, then put the bed on. It needs a new bumper, and all of the aluminum polished, and the interior pretty much completely needs redone. More videos will for sure be posted when I get it fixed up a bit nicer. I just couldn't help sharing what I've got so far, and the awesome sound of that 3406B cat through those straight pipes!

  • Very interesting innovation you have...

Did you leave the fifth wheel on, or was it removed in favor of the bed?

  • @TheDarkLordLink No fifth wheel. I actually bought it as a dump truck that had just had the dump bed removed, so there was no fifth wheel hitch to start with.

  • I want a 362 Cabover Pete built this way!

  • @billandbeaufort Yeah that would be cool

  • Except for the "Communist States" (on the East & West Coasts) most of us can register as a private truck. This enables us to park in our driveways, no CDL, no weigh stations etc. Also lower (much) insurance costs.

  • @billandbeaufort Here in California that law says that if it has a pickup bed on it, and is only two axles, it does not require a CDL, or stopping at weigh stations, and insurance and registrations was quite cheap on this truck. That's exactly why I built it like this. I own other full size trucks, and I prefer my trucks full size, but I built this one specifically so I could avoid truck scales and things:-)

  • if he had paint the box same color of the truck it would look good im a peterbuilt fan so yea

  • hi whats the law in Virginia to make one of those semis a pickup i hope i hope i dont have to get a CDL for that

  • @dasani110 Ah, I see.

  • what transmission is in it

  • @XHustonProductionsX Yeah, I really prefer my trucks full size, but just wanted to do something different with this one. For one because I wanted to be able to avoid the truck scales and things. I just wish I had been able to paint the bed to match before doing these videos, and now I sold it so oh well.

  • Its basically a butchered truck/semi yet somehow it has a neat look to it... nice LOL

  • perhaps a slight chop of the roof would suit it
