Water Glass Music with Jamie Turner

Jamie Turner plays beautiful music on a series of brandy snifter glasses filled with water which when rubbed along the edges will produce notes with a heavenly sound that is beautiful to hear. Each glass is of a different size and filled with a specific level of water to produce a certain note.

Mr. Turner as some of you might recall, appeared on the Tonight Show several times in the 1970s and 1980s when Johnny Carson hosted the show before Jay Leno. He had at first appeared on the Tonight show in 1969 when Joey Bishop was the host.

He lives in northern Virginia about 7 miles from me and for many years has played outside the art gallery in the Old Town section of Alexandria Virginia known as the Torpedo Factory every spring and summer giving free performances.

I have had the pleasure most years to play his low C glass there on the right when he does a Scottish song that requires a long, low, sustained note and that has always been a joy and lots of fun. He will have children and adults try it and since I am so good at it...LOL.... he lets me do it every year !!! Jamie Turner is a sweet and delightful man and wonderfully talented.

There are only approximately 12 people in the world that play water glasses professionally as Jamie does.

LOL. Coincidence ! I saw him and talked to him 2 days ago at the same place and then again last night ! He is a delightful man. He still lets me play the low C when I am there. Hee hee :-)

As I mentioned in my panel, he appeared a few times on the old Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and other variety shows. He has even played before presidents of countries and kings and queens.

It blows my mind when he lets me play his low C for Scottish tunes !!! One time he had a row of wrenches and other tools to bang to make sounds and he had my good friend George and I play with him; I did the low C glass and George who is a drummer banged away on the hanging wrenches !!!! FUN !!!!

Jamie is still amazing! He is as good or better at brandy snifter glass playing than when he and I were good friends here in Philadelphia back in the 1970's. Such an engaging personality. He is a sensational musician! We both appeared on the Tonight Show. He got Carson, I got guest host David Letterman in 1979.
