Wait in Evangelion when did the main characters have to go against the military? I thought that they fought only angels or whatever they are called.

The End of Evangelion wasn't even supposed to be taken seriously, it was something the director did because of what people were saying about how he ended the series.

this is The End of Evangelion, it came after the series. this was the real finale. the one they couldn't release on tv I think for monetary reasons, but this was meant to be the real end of evangelion.
